Understanding the personal stakes of your work can transform your relationship to revision and reading as a part of the writing process. Revision has a relationship to convention, but dependence on convention alone works against the unique potential of your writing. 

We’ll move through a series of prompts to grow your awareness of the sub/conscious engines in your writing: what makes it work in a way that’s personal to you? what makes readers connect to it despite not knowing you? what drives you to create language?

This workshop is designed for writers of any genre and path. Though it begins with an interrogation of the world we write in, we’ll end up directly facing our own work and its relationship to our identities. somewhere between these two points is a star you can follow while expanding/your body of work.

noor ibn najam is a poet who teases, challenges, breaks, and creates language. she's a Callaloo and Watering Hole fellow and a recent resident of the Vermont Studio Center. her poems have been published and anthologized with DIAGRAM, ANMLY, The Academy of American Poets, the Rumpus, Bettering American Poetry, and others. her chapbook, PRAISE TO LESSER GODS OF LOVE, was published by Glass Poetry Press and mulls over the ever-shifting role love in the human experience—and how best to worship such a multitudinous deity.
