How do we translate into words artworks that were created to say what words cannot? In this generative writing session, we'll use media from the visual and performing arts as points of departure for writing exercises that address this paradox in arts writing.
Catherine Ricketts is a writer and musician whose work focuses on the arts, grief, joy, and spirituality. Her writing appears in The Kenyon Review Online, the Ploughshares blog, Image Journal, The Millions, and Paste Magazine, among other publications. Her first book, about motherhood and artistic practice, is forthcoming from Broadleaf Books. Alongside her writing, Ricketts has maintained a vibrant career supporting the work of other artists at organizations like WXPN, FringeArts, and the Philadelphia Museum of Art. She lives outside of Philadelphia with her family.
