We’re back!

We're back!

Happy new year!
Welcome back to the Stoop, dear friends. We are excited to kick off a fresh semester of classes and programs. Much of it is still in the works, but here's what I can tell you today:

Spring classes are officially open for registration! Space is limited, so don't procrastinate if you see something you like. We've got all the good stuff: fiction, nonfiction, poetry, multigenre, and publishing skills. There are both online and in-person options in lengths ranging from 3 hours to 6 weeks. We've also improved our financial aid system and payment plans! You can learn more about all of this on our FAQ page or in our course catalog. Tell a friend!

Creative Coworking is back in action starting January 22. If you missed the memo, these are generative, virtual drop-in sessions designed to promote productivity. It's the perfect opportunity to journal about all the resolutions you've already abandoned, or to tap back into that half-finished novel. It's very much free, but donations are always appreciated. Register here

Thursdays on the Stoop is kicking off with a session by local screenwriter Bridgid Ryan. This free, 1-hour virtual event is geared toward queer, trans/nonbinary, and disabled writers and will explore plot structures and strategies. Learn more and register here. I'm still finalizing the rest of the semester's schedule, so keep an eye on our event page for newly added sessions. I'm admittedly biased, but this semester's workshops are going to be very, very good.

In other news, our winter fundraiser has been a big success. We not only met, but exceeded our $10,000 goal! A confession: I am a chronic pessimist — keeping my expectations low helps me avoid feelings of disappointment. But your support for our auction blew all my expectations out of the water. Thank you, thank you, thank you. (By the way, if you won an auction item, but did not receive redemption instructions, please check your spam folder! And if that doesn't help, please contact us so we can sort things out.)

The Community Access Fund is still open for contributions, and anyone who donates between now and February 6 will get a packet of free digital resources and an invite to an exclusive virtual event featuring local authors of books with 2025 release dates, including J.B. Hwang, Kayleb Rae Candrilli, Sophie Lewis, Tre Johnson, and several others. Your tax-deductible donation goes toward scholarships for low-income students, free public programs, and capacity-building for our small (but mighty) team.

In solidarity,

Julian Shendelman
Co-Director
