Thursdays on the Stoop--Sacred Monsters: A Discovery Session w/ Mary Zhou

What makes a monster? What would your monster sing? Eat? Wear? Monster work can be playful, illuminating, and haunting – closer to truth than fantasy. We'll draw inspiration from Lynda Barry's comic drawing exercises, Furbys, haunted doll listings on Ebay, and more. From there, we'll sketch and write around / about / to our own monsters. All skill levels encouraged; no drawing or writing experience required.

Mary Zhou (they/she) is an artist based in Philadelphia. They explore grief, belonging, and the body through writing, dance, and visual art. Their work has been shared in The Rumpus, Oversound, ANMLY, and more.
